At TFI Dentistry, we like to ensure our technology is up to date with state-of-the-art equipment to create a smooth process in recognising your issue and finding the best treatment you need. We update our technology often and this enables our practice to be at the forefront of dentistry in Queensland. Below are our most used state-of-the-art pieces of equipment we use in both our Thornlands and Labrador practices.

OPG and Lateral Cephalograms

Dental x-rays including orthopantomograms (OPGs) and lateral cephalograms employ the same technique but take views specifically of the lower face, teeth and jaws. An OPG provides a panoramic view of the mouth, teeth and bones of the upper and lower jaws. A lateral cephalogram results in a lateral or side view of the face.

This treatment is quick and as usual, x-rays have no preparation and can be performed during normal trading hours. You may be asked to remove certain jewellery etc. which is usual for an X-ray.

This treatment is beneficial for you because it easily detects important and perhaps arising issues with your oral health. The scan can provide information on wisdom teeth, periodontal bone loss, orthodontic assessment, TMJ joint dysfunction, jaw trauma, dental pain, or be used as part of a general dental check-up.

Intraoral Cameras

These cameras are a digital camera that is small, like a pen. This pen-like camera connects to our computer or TV screens, which you can watch as we investigate your mouth. This assists you to understand what exactly we are talking about when bringing up your oral health issues and creates less confusion.

This treatment does not take long; it is simple, essentially pain-free and fun!

This treatment is great because you get to see firsthand and up close the state of your teeth, including any problems such as cracked teeth, decay, worn-out or defective fillings, bleeding gums and plaque. Often we can print a copy off for a patient, for instance when we need the patient to monitor any changes at home… so if there are any changes you know to come back in and see us.

Digital X-rays

A teeth X-ray is invaluable to any dentist in the maintenance of good oral health when treating a patient. X-rays are divided into two main categories, intraoral and extraoral. Intraoral is an X-ray that is taken inside the mouth. An extraoral X-ray is taken outside of the mouth. Intraoral X-rays are the most common type of radiograph taken in dentistry. They give a high level of detail of the tooth, bone and supporting tissues of the mouth.

This treatment is quick and as usual, x-rays have no preparation and can be performed during normal trading hours.  You will usually be asked to remove metal jewellery etc. that could possibly block the X-ray from performing to its best.

X-rays assist us in finding hidden dental structures, malignant or benign masses, bone loss, and cavities. Once we have established these issues we can work together to plan action in resolving said issues.

It’s our priority to help keep your teeth for life!
